About the event

The "Melt the ICE" hat is a red, pointed, tasseled beanie designed by Paul Neary of Minneapolis’ Needle & Skein shop in early 2026. Inspired by Norwegian "nisselue" hats worn to silently defy Nazi occupation in the 1940s, it serves as a modern protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The movement has raised over $650,000 for immigrant rights groups, selling thousands of patterns.

Join us for a free community make-along designed for advanced beginner knitters and crocheters. We’ll provide guidance and support as you work on your project in a welcoming, creative space. Tea will be available.

Please purchase the original “Melt the ICE” hat pattern from Needle & Skein, the originators of this design. For those who have purchased the original pattern, a top-down version will be provided at the event.

Please bring your own yarn or you can purchase yarn in the studio.
